Club World Cup - The First of its Kind
The new era of CWC kicked off with 32 teams from across the world. Who would be the best? (It was Chelsea!), but what we really cared about was: Who would take the PKs?
We were not spoiled with any penalty shootouts this tournament. The Round of 16 only saw 2 PKs, and the last PK taken was in the Quarterfinals - Real Madrid v. Dortmund.

With VAR all the talk these days, we decided to focus our stats on how much VAR has a say in PKs.
We always look at who takes the PKs or saves the PKs, but who are the ones who commit the offense leading to the spot kick.
The ones with maybe the most pressure? The potential hero’s of the game or a tournament.
The man who stepped up to the spot the most in the group stages deserves his own slide. The next club awarded the ,most PKs after Benfica were Al Ahly with 2, but different takers.

BOY did VAR have a lot to say this tournament with interference in 60% of calls surrounding PKs.
Defenders committed the most fouls leading to PKs to no real surprise, but midfielders committed a significant amount (2 less than defenders).
We only saw 3 saves this tournament. Would’ve been more if we had PK shootouts.
Di María remains the highlight as he scored 4 of his 4 PKs. Very impressive considering he used the same technique, and mainly to the left.
